A volunteer moderator who editorializes, or a treasurer who lets a candidate rent the member list, can put the League’s tax status at risk. Training is how the League keeps its promise. It is required, not offered, for anyone who holds a named role — and it is free.
Required within 90 days for every director, officer, chapter officer, and holder of a named role — and for all four officers before a charter issues. Covers the mission and the pillars; the three programs; Article I and what “no positions, ever” means in practice; your own politics versus speaking for the League; the logs; data rules; how dues flow.
Start Basic TrainingRequired before anyone moderates a League event or edits a League voter guide. Covers the Equal-Treatment Standard as a checklist; the IRS forum and voter-guide factors; random order; equal-time clocks; the no-show rule; and the audience member who tries to make you take a side.
Get certifiedThe program calendar; quarterly reports; dues remittance; the $500 dual-signature rule; the 60-day receipt rule; venue insurance certificates; the Charter Agreement; and how to answer a nonpartisanship complaint.

For members who will teach Basic Training and Moderator Certification in their region. The Bench orientation — one hour on Article I and the Standard — is required of every former officeholder joining the faculty roster.
